Caroline Ragsdale Reutter started her cake business out of the kitchen in her own home. Now, over 40 years later, Richard Reutter, her son, is carrying on the family tradition and serving the same iconic cakes and other delicious items from their storefront in Spartanburg, South Carolina. Whether you are looking for a cake shipped to a family gathering or want to stop in for an afternoon pick-me-up, the storefront offers a welcoming, bright, and functional space to connect with friends and sample cakes and other sweet and savory treats.
After more than 40 years of cakes, the time came to revitalize this family-owned and operated business and enhance the customer and staff experience with a new storefront. The exterior renovation involved significantly enhancing the existing building's curb appeal with a bright, inviting facade to match the Caroline's Cakes brand with a prominent white exterior and a cheerful yellow and white striped awning. Green trim around the windows complemented the color scheme to create an inviting storefront.
The interior upfit included a seating area with a custom yellow banquette, creating a space where guests could enjoy cake and gather with friends. New windows brought much-needed natural light into the front-of-house.
Custom green casework was installed to display both refrigerated and dry goods and enhance the retail experience. The space also features playful neon signage, including Caroline's original signature, to reinforce the brand's cheerful identity.
Additionally, the space was reconfigured to create three new offices, a conference room, and new storage area for back-of-house needs. The area where calls and emails are received from around the country and cake orders are processed was refreshed and rebranded with the iconic Caroline's Cakes tagline: Eat Cake. Be Happy. This space makes you want to do just that!
